How to Use Vellum Paper in Scrapbooking - 5 Ideas

Most scrapbookers have at least a sheet or two of vellum in their supply stash. If you're not familiar with the product, vellum paper is a semi-translucent, ivory-colored paper that is often used in wedding announcements, but it's also a popular scrapbooking material. Loved for the air of elegance it lends to a scrapbook page or project, vellum can be a versatile product. In addition to the frequent use on wedding and anniversary pages, here are five ways to use it in your scrapbooking:1. On baby pages. The ivory color works well as a background for soft-colored baby pages. It gives the feeling of clouds or puffy cotton, which is perfect for infant pages. (bonus hint: You can rip vellum easily, and the rough edges really enhance that sense of cottony softness).2. To tone down brighter colors. Because vellum paper is semi-opaque, you can use it over a brighter colored patterned paper or cardstock to bring it down in intensity.3. As a journaling block. Print right on your vellum paper and trim it to fit your page. This technique is perfect for pages with gorgeous patterns, or darker-colored cardstock that would be difficult to journal on directly.4. As a photo mat. If you want a photo mat but don't want to add another color, or use a harsh white, vellum can be perfect. It will help the photo have more dimension, but it won't add a competing color.5. As a background for your title. Again, if your background is dark, or is a busy patterned paper, you may not want to add letter stickers directly on your background paper. Instead, add a piece of vellum paper cropped to size. The title will stand up, but it won't add competing elements or colors to your page.
